5 Reasons It’s Time to Upgrade Your Mattress

There are some things that last a lifetime: true love, family heirlooms, your grandmother’s china. Your mattress is not one of those things. Though you may dream of being together forever with your mattress, eventually even the most comfortable mattress must eventually be replaced.

The general consensus amongst experts is that most mattresses need to be replaced after 7-10 years. You may even want to replace yours sooner if you’re dealing with any discomfort or sleep disturbances, if your mattress is showing any obvious signs of over-use like sagging, or if your body requirements or health has changed.

Because mattresses are so important in getting the best quality sleep possible, upgrading yours can lead to greater comfort, better health, and an overall higher quality of life. Need more convincing? Here are 5 reasons you should consider upgrading your mattress:

  1. How much sleep you get (or don’t get), as well as the quality of that sleep, has an enormous impact on your health. Sleeping on a worn-out mattress means that your sleep and health will likely suffer. Put another way, investing in a good mattress is also investing in your health. What’s more important than that?

  1. You spend a lot of time on your mattress. About a third of your life, to be exact. You spend roughly 8 hours a night sleeping, plus more if you like to read, watch movies or lounge in bed. If you choose right, your mattress should will stay strong and comfortable for its entire 7-10 year lifespan. That all adds up to a lot of time spent on that one single mattress! Something you spend that much time on should be comfortable and fitting with your specific needs.

  1. Worn out mattresses are uncomfortable. Envision your current bed (maybe you’re even reading this from bed). Are you comfortable? Does your bed feel like a place you can sink into after a long day? Do you wake up rested and happy, or tired and with aches and pains? Do you love your bed, or just tolerate it? We can get so accustomed to our mattress that our chronic discomfort and pain seems normal. But it doesn’t have to! It’s possible to have the comfortable, lush, deep sleep of your dreams-- you just have to choose a mattress that works for you.

  1. When you or your lifestyle changes, your ideal mattress does too. Consider how things have changed since you shopped for your current mattress. Has your body shape or size shifted since you bought your mattress? Have you had any major injuries? Has your family grown? Do you now have a new partner, child, or furry friend vying for space? We can forget that the perfect mattress at one point in our lives just won’t work at another. As we change, our perfect mattress changes with us.

If your mattress is old or worn-out, your sleep just won’t be as good as it could be. It’s vital to check in with the state of your mattress from time to time, and to replace it when needed.
